  • You don’t want to miss the BBQFest at the ROC on Sat. July 29 and 30. Entertainment, Kids Zone, Slo-Pitch tournament, food and plenty of vendors and fun. All proceeds support three Georgina charities. It is your chance to give back to your community and have some fun at the same time.
  • The Green Acres Camp Ground Annual Yard Sale in Pefferlaw is on July 29 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Anything and everything plus BBQ and soft drinks.
  • Hospice Georgina has announced their “Hospice Hearts Linked by Courage” book project, a collection of hometown client and volunteer stories that have witnessed a positive difference because of Hospice programming. Hospice is reaching out to volunteers, seniors and family members to provide their stories for the project on or before July 31.   • The Pefferlaw Association of Ratepayers (PAR) invites you to the Pefferlaw Family Picnic on Monday, August 7. It’s a free day of fun, laughter and games at the Pefferlaw Lions Community park. You won’t want to miss the Lions Antique Car Show, the ReMax Air Balloon, the Climbing Wall, Watermelon and Hot Wings eating contests, Birds of Prey, Cash Grab Machine and much, much more. All events are free and everyone is welcome.
  • Be on the look-out for a Painted Perch cut-out at participating retail stores across Georgina and the Georgina Arts Centre. Purchase one and get those creative juices flowing for the Painted Perch Challenge on  Sat. Aug. 12 at Jackson’s Point parkette.
  • Oh, oh…Guess what this means? Just as the summer gets going the schedule for the Sutton Fair comes out! (I always attribute this fantastic annual event to mean that summer is almost over.) The theme for this year’s event is “Canada’s 150” and organizers have worked hard all year to bring a great line-up of events and activities to the fairgrounds in Sutton. So come and enjoy the Sutton Fair and Horse Show on August 10, 11, 12 and 13. There is something for everyone! San Jose Sharks centre and Keswick hometown celebrity Chris Tierney will open the fair on Thursday, August 10 at 7:00 pm.   • The Community Pentecostal Church in Beaverton is sponsoring a Free Youth Sports Night on Friday, August 18 at 7:00 pm. All teens are invited to come for a fun night of sports, games and a camp fire to wrap up the evening. Call (705) 426-5673 for details.
  • Check out the Jackson’s Point BIA Movie in the Park showing of La La Land at the Jackson’s Point Parkette on Sat. August 19.
  • The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery are hosting “Canada 150—Four Generations”. This exhibition features works by Chiarandini, Wilson, Weber and Zolt juxtaposed with works by OCAD University students. The exhibit runs until August 20.
